Why is one type of vitamin C better than another?

Isn’t a vitamin “just a vitamin”?

Often, inexpensive vitamins that are sourced from a discount store will have a lesser quality nutrient value. We get what we pay for. Even stores that we like and trust often carry inferior vitamins because, simply put, these stores do not “know” vitamins.

They think they are doing a service by offering vitamin products at a low price, but when you look at the ingredients with a learned eye, the forms of the vitamins are inferior (usually meaning, not very absorbable).

The Better Back and Body Shop stands behind quality lines of vitamins that have high levels of the active forms of the vitamins. What about vitamin C, specifically? The Better Back and Body Shop carries Quicksilver brand Liposomal Vitamin C  for its superior quality and delivery system.

What is liposomal vitamin C?

Liposomes basically encase, hold, and transport the vitamin C to the cells.  Our cell membranes are made of these same type of fats (called phospholipids), and so the liposomal vitamin C is attracted to the cell membranes for delivery.

The “liposomes” in the Liposomal Vitamin C by Quicksilver are very small. The sphere of phospholipid molecule that encases the vitamin C is only one molecule thick. Like a cage, the liposomes hold and transport the vitamin C. The whole thing — the fatty sphere with the vitamin inside — is so small that it can go through the mucus membranes and right into the cells.

How to Take Liposomal Vitamin C

People often hold a liposomal vitamin C dose (1 teaspoon) under their tongue for 30 seconds. This begins the process of absorbing the vitamin into the blood stream through the sub-lingual membranes. Pull quote this part:

Simply take a teaspoon of the liquid liposomal vitamin C, put it under your tongue, hold for 30 seconds, then swallow. When you swallow, the transmission continues through digestion, and also simply through absorption, all the way down.

Vitamin C is good for so many things!

The National Institutes of Health recognize the many values of vitamin C in a fine summery HERE.  Vitamin C is good for the vascular system and blood vessel strength. vitamin C is needed to help make collagen in order to keep the skin and fascia holding everything “up.” vitamin C is even good for mood because it helps make neurotransmitters (or brain chemicals). Vitamin C is a co-factor in many, many cell functions on a biochemistry level. Vitamin C even produces interferon, a chemical that is used in anti-viral therapy.  That is one reason why vitamin C is considered to be an antiviral agent. (Interferon communicates to cells in a way that makes them more resistant to virus.)

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant.

Antioxidants are needed for cell health. The cells in our body get damaged, injured, or just old. On an atomic level within the cells, free electrons run around ruining the structures of surrounding atoms. This is called “free-radical damage.” When this process of damage begins, it can be like a wildfire that takes off and sweeps through the atoms, molecules and cells, creating more and more damage.

Antioxidants basically put out that fire. The atoms in anti-oxidants lend an electron that fills a need. This stops the cascade of damage. Antioxidants include vitamins A, D, C, E, glutathione, and others. The quality of your supplements does matter. And with the amount of things we normally encounter that create free radical damage: stress, electromagnetic frequencies, and poor food choices at times…it is usually not enough to just eat well.
