Christine Cyr has been practicing cranio-sacral therapy since 2012. Her training started directly under the tutelage of Dr. Sylvia Skefich, chiropractor. She has taken Dr. Skefich’s public cranio-sacral classes, since. Christine quickly progressed to attending the Upledger Institute of craniosacral therapy with their 4-day intensive classes including CranioSacral Therapy™ level one and level two, and Somato-Emotional Release™ (unwinding techniques) level one.
Christine continues to attend Dr. Skefich’s in-office cranio-sacral therapy tutorials, which are specific to pain conditions, to techniques that may not be taught in typical class, and to nuanced findings.
Christine had worked in chiropractic offices for over 20 years in office management and insurance billing capacities. Then she felt a stirring. Christine knew that there was something more that her soul needed to offer. Interestingly, both she and Dr. Skefich had the same thought at the same time. They approach one another about the idea Christine becoming a cranio-sacral therapist at Dr. Skefich’s office.
In the past, Dr. Skefich had hired chiropractors to help her with the overflow. Good as these doctors were, none matched what the patients were coming in for (being that cranio-sacral was the specialty of the office). Christine had witnessed this from the desk. And yet all along, the patients would remark that the healing began as soon as they entered the reception area with Christine at the helm.
With a tutorial, Dr. Skefich immediately affirmed that Christine had “the hands” to be able to learn this most exquisite technique. And she had the heart, as well.
Now as a therapist, Christine has gained a following of clients who rely on her for pain care and for life support through cranio-sacral therapy. Dr. Skefich also relies on Christine to handle the overflow and refers to her when Christine’s cranio-sacral skill set would best benefit the patient. Christine has helped people with headaches, neck and back pain, disc pain, abdominal complaints, feet problems, and more.
People are invited to schedule a visit with Christine regardless if they have seen Dr. Skefich first.
Jodi Jackson Vogel had been a friend of the office for many years. Then in 2016 she got inspired to learn the methods of cranio-sacral therapy and she became a practitioner herself. Already, Jodi had graduated with an Associate’s of Arts degree in Muscular Therapy in 2004. Her training included over 900 hours of hands-on work in shiatsu, myofascial release techniques and other styles of muscle release therapy.
Once she veered her attention to cranio-sacral therapy, Jodi then completed multiple 4-day intensive classes from the Upledger Institute of craniosacral therapy, including CranioSacral Therapy™ level one and level two, and Somato-Emotional Release TM (unwinding techniques) level one and level two.
In addition, Jodi has received the cranio-sacral therapy trainings of Dr. Skefich in the public classes as well as in the ongoing in-office employee tutorials since 2017. (Dr. Skefich herself learned cranio-sacral therapy through mentorship and through “lineage” via two beloved mentors, and Jodi has received that lineage from Dr. Skefich.)
An avid learner and a service-minded soul, Jodi also has a special interest and training in end of life preparations, both ceremonial and practical, as a certified End of Life Doula. Jodi is certified as a Visiting Volunteer for Hospice of Santa Cruz. And she is trained as a Community Emergency Response Trainee.
At our office, clients experience Jodi as the warm, wise, caring cranio-sacral therapist that helps to tether out the twists, torsions and contractures that make life less than it could be. Dr. Skefich relies on Jodi’s presence at the office to provide cranio-sacral care. People come for pain relief of the head, neck, back and even hands, arms, legs or feet. People also come to her for emotional support, for relaxation, and for energy balancing. People are welcomed to schedule directly with Jodi at our office, independent of any chiropractic appointments made.
Dr. Skefich is dedicated to her practice of helping people to attain their full potential for health. With more than 20 years of experience as a cranio-sacral practitioner and a doctor of chiropractic, she brings the best to you. Having had a full-time practice during her entire career, her hands have become like sonar to locate pain and tension.
Cranio-sacral therapy is Dr. Skefich’s “lens” to assess the body, and is her primary technique of body work, as well. It is a technique where a therapist feels the soft tissues, the bones, and spine as a fluid moving wave. (There is a physical, subtle, very slow pulsation in the spine that can be felt throughout the whole body, just like the pulse of the heart can be.) Dr. Skefich assesses, and then effects helpful change to the fluidity, and mobility that the soft tissues have on the bones. This opens up joint space and usually relieves pain.
By “listening” with her hands, Dr. Skefich is able to track pain conditions to the root cause of tension—which may be far from the point of pain. Then using either cranio-sacral techniques, Hendrickson Method orthopedic massage, or standard (or non-force) chiropractic adjustments, Dr. Skefich will address the point of pain and the root that caused it. Everything is connected.
Dr. Skefich has considerable additional training. Every technique she has learned over the years, as well as the “data” from each person she has touched in her practice has built her level of expertise for your benefit.
Her certifications and degrees are: Bachelor of Science degree from Cal Poly University, San Luis Obispo; Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Life Chiropractic College West; Certification in CranioSacral Therapy from the Upledger Institute (more learned through mentee-ship under Ed Jarvis, D.C.); Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner from Vijay Stallings, MA (non-practicing as an Ayurvedic practitioner); Certified Massage Therapist from Hendrickson Method Orthopedic Massage; Certified in Foundations of Nutritional Therapy from the International Foundation for Nutrition and Health; Certified intermediate level practitioner for Nutritional Response Testing technique from Ulan Nutritional Systems (non- practicing in Nutritional Response Testing); and Advanced Certification of Competency in Whiplash and Brain Traumatology from the San Diego Spine Research Institute.
Dr. Skefich is passionate that her patients get the best care. She will do email follow ups when needed, and she has a lending library of useful tools, books and other resources for particular conditions. She offers many products for sale, and those who know Dr. Skefich knows that she views the nutritional products as her tools and her allies (rather than as a profit center). In fact she sells many products at less than retail price in order to make the health supplements available–so check her prices if you are a supplement user.
Dr. Skefich has pride for her profession and takes a leadership role in it. She started the “Cranio-Sacral Club” while at her chiropractic college–and the club is still going strong today. Dr. Skefich has been President and Vice-President of the California Chiropractic Association, Monterey Bay District, and as President spearheaded events such as free chiropractic for the Loma Prieta fire fighters that travelled her to help us.
Dr. Skefich teaches cranio-sacral seminars and workshops for body work practitioners locally in Santa Cruz.
